How do we prepare for different types of weather?
K-PS3-2:Use tools and materials to design and build a structure that will reduce the warming effect of sunlight on an area.
K-PS3-1: Make observations to determine the effect of sunlight on Earth’s surface.
K-ESS3-2:Ask questions to obtain information about the purpose of weather forecasting to prepare for, and respond to severe weather.
What happens when the sun shines on different objects?
How can I protect myself from the sunlight?

What is the weather like today and how is it different from yesterday?
Can I predict tomorrow’s weather?
VIC words:

Ask your child what the VIC Word is...
This is the word that we use to signal movement around the room and outside...
The children will be asked to give their prediction to the word...then they will be asked to find the true meaning of the signal word and report where they found the meaning... (parent's will need to help!)

Practice modeling correct number formation!
Go outside with a paintbrush and water and teach your child how to make 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 on the sidewalk!
( Parents: Make sure you model the numbers first, you are working on making sure the numbers are facing the correct direction, so modeling is the key)

we will be practicing two ways of counting 10's ( eleven, twelve, thirteen.... and 1- ten 1-one, 1-ten 2- ones, 1-ten 3- ones)

Our Language Art Focus
Phonics:
1) Work on naming all capitol and lower case letters out of order
2) Work on saying the sound of upper and lower case letters out of order
3) Match or say as many words that start with the letter you see or are shown
4) Create rhyming words
5) Work on identifying beginning and ending sound of a word
Reading:
guide your child to ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
guide your child to identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.
guide your child to describe the connection between two individuals, events, ideas, or pieces of information in a text.
Writing Skill:
* Work on the formation of upper and lower case letters
*Work on sounding out and writing the letter that matches the sound to make words
* Work on leaving finger space between to words
A good way to start these is to work on your child's first and last name: teach each letter name , sound, correct way to make the letter and start using lower case. Make this fun, use play dough, shaving cream, a paintbrush and water, but model first!
