Principal's Update

Coleman Families:

We have an important week ahead as we begin state-mandated ELPAC testing for our English Language Learners (ELLs/multilingual learners). Please read carefully for details and upcoming Spring Break reminders.

ELPAC Testing: This Week (Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM)

This week, from Monday to Friday, our ELL students will be taking the summative ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessment for California) exam. We want to reassure you that our teachers have been working diligently to prepare your children, and we are confident they will do their best.  We are incredibly proud of the students who were celebrated on Wednesday night at Terra Linda High School who were recognized for being Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) status! This is a significant accomplishment, requiring:
  • An overall ELPAC score of 4.
  • Grade-level or above performance on the CAASPP English Language Arts section.
  • Meeting the SRCS Board of Education criteria on the i-Ready ELA assessment.

Spring Break Preparation (April 7th - 11th): Keeping Routines & Reducing the Spring Break Slump

Next week is our final week before Spring Break. We understand that the lead-up to a break can sometimes disrupt routines, and we want to help ensure a smooth transition for all our students. It's important to maintain consistent routines, especially bedtime routines, so students can have a restful and productive break. You can find helpful tips in the "Back to School Sleep Tips" article from Sleep Foundations.
To help your child continue their learning journey during the break, we encourage the following activities:
  • Daily reading for 20-30 minutes.
  • Daily practice of counting or math facts.
  • Utilizing the i-Ready "My Path" application. Please contact your child’s teacher for more information on how to access and use this resource if you don't know how.
We appreciate your ongoing support and partnership in your child's education. We wish our students the best during ELPAC testing and a restful and enriching Spring Break.

Yenebi's Drive

Book Recommendation: Yenebi's Drive to School by Sendy Santamaria

On Tuesday, our first and second-grade students enjoyed an incredible visit from Sendy Santamaria. "Yenebi's Drive to School" offers a unique and heartwarming perspective on the daily school commute, blending the vibrant energy of "Dreamers" with the familiar first-day jitters of "School's First Day of School." This beautifully illustrated story follows Yenebi's journey across the border, revealing a family's dedication and the rich cultural tapestry of their daily life. Sendy Santamaria's debut captures the universal experience of getting to school, while highlighting the extraordinary circumstances of a family's cross-border routine. It's a must-read for elementary school families seeking a story that celebrates diversity and the power of love.

Coleman Student, Family, and Staff Handbook Highlight

Late to Pick up

The office closes at 4 PM.  Students who have not been picked up by 3 PM on M, T, TH, F and 1 pm on Wednesday are asked to wait in the office until an adult arrives. We make every effort to contact parents when a child is left at school.  We also attempt to contact adults listed on the child's emergency card.  Parents should make every effort to call the office at 415-485-2420, should an emergency occur that precludes a punctual pick-up.
