Dear Families,
Last week was a busy and wonderful time at Coleman! Ms. Kassy led engaging lunchtime activities for "Not in Our School," a national movement promoting kindness, inclusivity, and bully-free campuses. Students created banners, wrote words of affirmation, and celebrated with a lively Freeze Dance! A huge thank you to our Dad's Group for a fantastic Wednesday event, and to all the volunteers who made Fall Fest and Trunk or Treat such a joy for our students.
Looking ahead, please join us this Friday at 8:10 AM for our campus Halloween walk. Students should arrive in costume (no masks, face coverings, fake blood, or replica weapons, please). We will also offer a fall-themed alternative for students not participating in Halloween; please notify your child's teacher via ParentSquare if you'd like your student to join this group.
Conference Week Schedule & Tips As a reminder, there is no school for students this Monday, as teachers will be holding parent-teacher conferences. Additionally, students will be dismissed early at 11:50 AM from Tuesday through Friday to accommodate afternoon conferences.
Conferences are a wonderful time to partner with your child's teacher. Here are a few questions you might consider asking:
-
Class Participation: How does my child participate and engage in class?
-
Academic Standards: What are the key math and reading skills for this year, and how is my child progressing?
-
Home-School Connection: What activities can we do at home to reinforce classroom learning?
-
Assessment Results: Can you help us interpret my child's i-Ready and/or Foundational Literacy Assessment (FLA) scores?
-
Social Interaction: Is my child making friends and interacting positively with peers?
-
Independence: How can we encourage my child to confidently advocate for their needs?
Celebrating Día de los Muertos
As November begins, we are excited to celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on November 1st and 2nd. You can explain this beautiful Latin American tradition to your children as a joyful family reunion honoring loved ones who have passed away, focusing on sharing happy stories and memories rather than sadness.
At the heart of the celebration is the ofrenda (offering) - a welcoming altar decorated with photos, glowing candles, sweet-smelling marigolds, and favorite foods to peacefully guide spirits back for a visit.
To help students experience this meaningful tradition, our community has created a beautiful, shared ofrenda at the campus entrance. We warmly invite your family to participate by bringing in a copy of a photograph of a loved one (no originals, please) alongside a small, non-perishable favorite treat they used to enjoy. Please drop off your photos and food items at the front office by this Friday so we can practice honoring the people we miss together.
