Principal's Update
Dear Coleman Families,

We had a great first week back to school! Our students were joyfully connecting with their classmates and the staff.

Parent Involvement

This week, we have two events happening on Thursday. Ms. Martha will interpret both; we welcome everyone. Please join us for our Principal Coffee Chat in the library on Thursday morning. Thursday at 7 pm, we are having our first bilingual Dad's Group meeting in the recently updated library. Please come and join us!

Tiger Trails

Our Student Council, Tiger Teams, and Green Team leaders will lead the Tiger Trails for our classes on Thursday. During Tiger Trails, each class is led around campus, and we share our expected positive behaviors in seven different zones. In past years, this was led by staff - this year, our student leadership teams requested to lead the presentations in English and Spanish. Having strong student leadership leads to a welcoming and positive school community where everyone plays a role in shaping the community we strive to be. I'm excited to see our student leaders in action on Thursday.

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found will be bagged up on Monday and delivered to the Goodwill. Please make sure to check for your student's clothes one last time on Monday.

Safe Play at School

As a school community, we strive to create a safe and respectful environment where all students feel secure and valued. In light of the unfortunate reality of school shootings, even pretend shooting games can be unsettling for others and are not acceptable in the school setting. These games can send mixed messages about the seriousness of real-world safety concerns. We encourage you to talk with your child about choosing inclusive and positive ways to play, explaining that these actions can make others uncomfortable and that our words and behaviors should reflect kindness and care for everyone.

Thank you for supporting us in fostering a safe and positive school culture.
Attendance
Attendance Party
The positive attendance percentage for December was close. Our second-grade class had the highest percentage, at 96.17%. On Friday, the second-grade students will have a hot celebration where Mr. Ray will cook hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers for our second grade students. We will continue to celebrate the grade level with the highest positive attendance percentage each month. Please continue to send your students to school daily.
The Anxious Generation
Checkout What I'm Reading - The Anxious Generation
In The Anxious Generation, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt uncovers the alarming rise of teen mental health challenges and its connection to the decline of play-based childhood and the rise of phone-based living. He explores how social media, sleep deprivation, addiction, and other factors have reshaped children’s development, with particularly concerning effects on girls and boys in different ways. Haidt offers actionable solutions for parents, schools, and society to reverse these trends and restore a healthier, more humane childhood for the next generation.

Sunscreen
Sunscreen should not be considered an over-the-counter medication at school. However, students can bring and apply their sunscreen during the school day without medical authorization. Sunscreen should not be shared among students. School staff are not required to assist with applying sunscreen but can do so if they choose upon a parent's request.
