Principal's Update
Coleman Families,

In honor of International Women's Day, I've reflected on the remarkable women who have helped shape my perspective.

My grandmother, in particular, stands out. Growing up in an orphanage during the Great Depression, she was unwavering in creating her own path. She pursued her passions, studying architecture at UC Berkeley while working night shifts in the Richmond Shipyards during World War II. Despite facing limited career opportunities as a woman architect at the time, she pivoted and earned a degree in Occupational Therapy from USC.

My grandmother's journey highlights the importance of pursuing one's passions and forging one's own path. This resonates with our mission at Coleman. We are committed to creating a supportive environment where all students feel empowered to explore their interests, develop their unique talents, and build the skills necessary to thrive as successful, well-rounded individuals.

We believe in fostering a sense of equality and opportunity for all our students, ensuring they have the tools to achieve their full potential.

Conferences

Conference week is right around the corner. Monday, March 17, is a non-student conference day. The remainder of the week students are released at 11:50 am for a minimum day schedule. Students who attend Tiger Club will be picked up from Tiger Team leaders at 11:50 am, utilizing, the blacktop, library, and the MPR.

Time Change:

Spring is in the air! Please remember to set your clocks forward 1 hour since the time changed today, Sunday, March 9, at 2 am.

Other Words for Home
Book Recommendation: Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga
In honor of International Women's Day on March 8th, check out Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga. The book follows Jude, a 12-year-old Syrian refugee, as she navigates a new life in Cincinnati. Written in verse, the novel explores her struggle to adapt to American culture while maintaining her identity. Through new friendships and experiences, Jude ultimately finds a sense of belonging and self-acceptance, highlighting themes of cultural adjustment and the refugee experience. The book, which earned a Newbery Honor, was inspired by the author's own background and observations of the Syrian refugee crisis.
Coleman Student, Family, and Staff Handbook Highlight
As the weather warms up, please remember to apply sunscreen to your students.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen should not be considered an over-the-counter medication at school. However, students can bring and apply their sunscreen during the school day without medical authorization. Sunscreen should not be shared among students. School staff are not required to assist with applying sunscreen but can do so if they choose upon a parent's request.
