Coleman Families:

Spring into Reading Week

Spring into Reading Week was a huge success. Thank you to our families for supporting to make the week a hit. We love celebrating reading at Coleman!

Reclassification Celebration
I'm thrilled that seven Coleman Tigers were reclassified as English proficient. On Wednesday, March 26, we will celebrate our students' reclassification at Terra Linda High School. Being redesignated as proficient in English typically takes 5-7 years and is a huge accomplishment. To be eligible for reclassification, students need to score a level 4 overall on the English Language Proficiency Assessment for California and score proficient on the English Language Arts portion of the CAASPP or reach the cut point for their grade level through the local assessment i-Ready.
Many of our alumni will apply and receive the high honor of the State Seal of biliteracy for their high school graduation. Students receive the State Seal of Biliteracy by passing the AP Spanish exam, completing four years of a foreign language, and having a 3.0 or higher. This is a huge recognition that many of our students can and will accomplish.

Green Week

This week is Green Week! Our Green Team is hosting a week of events to get our students excited about Zero-Waste. We are aiming to become a Silver rated school this school year reducing our waste significantly. Please ask your students about how the green, brown, blue and black bins work at school and home! Check out the awesome schedule of events happening HERE.

Original Sins

What's on the Principal's Bookshelf?: Original Sins The (Mis)education of Black and Native Children

Eve L. Ewing's "Original Sins" reveals how the American school system has historically reinforced societal hierarchies, rather than providing equal opportunity. The book argues that educational structures were intentionally designed to cultivate specific roles for different groups of children, impacting their future expectations. These ingrained patterns persist in modern schooling through methods like standardized testing and resource allocation. Ewing calls for a fundamental reassessment of the purpose of education and its impact on children's lives.

Student Release During the Day
To ensure the safety of all students, we require the following procedures for the release of students:
  • Parent or designee must report to the school office.
  • Students will be called to meet parents in the office
  • Parents or designee will be asked to sign the student sign-out sheet.
  • Students will only be released to the person(s) named on the emergency card unless we receive prior notification from the parents.
  • Please try to pick up students before or after recess; it’s very hard to find students on the playground.
