Dear Coleman Tigers:
Welcome Back to School! We are so excited to welcome you back to campus! The first day of school is Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 12:45 PM.
This year promises to be extra special! We’re thrilled to announce the opening of two beautiful new TK classrooms and a dedicated TK playground. Our former 4th-grade portable has been replaced with an incredible new 5th-grade classroom, complete with an after-school office space and two restrooms. In
addition, we’ve added a new digital marquee and a gorgeous new kindergarten play space.
We are deeply grateful to our community for supporting these Bond Projects. Special thanks to Tim Ryan,
Senior Director of Strategic Facility Planning, and our amazing Maintenance and Operations team for helping make Coleman such a beautiful and welcoming school for our students. The second phase of the project is already underway and is expected to be completed by the end of our November break.
We know that the first day of school can bring a mix of emotions—excitement, nerves, and curiosity are all completely normal! To help your student start strong, we recommend re-establishing a consistent school routine. This includes:
- Getting 9–12 hours of sleep each night (as recommended by pediatricians)
- Putting away screens at least two hours before bedtime
- Waking up early enough to prepare and arrive at school on time
As you get ready for the new school year, please note that all essential school supplies will be provided. You only need to send your child with a backpack, lunchbox, and water bottle.
We can’t wait to see you on Wednesday, August 20!

My name is Fernanda Burciaga, and I am returning to my fourth year with Coleman as a TK classroom teacher. I earned my teaching credential and masters over the spring of 2025 through the Alder Teacher Residency program. I am looking forward to the learning I will gain working with the kiddos this year. I was raised here in San Rafael and attended San Pedro Elementary, Davidson Middle School, and San Rafael High School, so I feel very connected to the school community here. I previously worked with BACR and LEAP at Coleman, in addition to serving as an IA with Kinder and TK. When I’m not surrounded by children, I enjoy falling into a great book or listening to music. When I go out you can usually find me at the bookstore, a coffee shop, at the art store, or shopping! I also enjoy spending my time in San Francisco, eating delicious food, and spending time with friends.

Hello Coleman Community! My name is Caroline Sequeira, and I am your new TK - 5 Visual Arts teacher. I will be teaching at Coleman Monday - Thursday in the art room. This will be my 9th year of teaching, my 7th year as an elementary art teacher, and my 2nd year in San Rafael City Schools. In my free time, I enjoy playing rugby, Australian rules football, whitewater sports, and all types of outdoor recreation. I created my own standards based art curriculum centered on teaching my students personal expression, art skills, and a diverse range of professional and folk artists. In keeping with the standards, students will curate their own portfolios and store their art in the classroom until open house. If you're interested in seeing what your student is creating in the art room, please follow our class Instagram @ms.sequeirasartclass to see the past and present projects and art shows.

Hello Coleman Staff! My name is Kayla Haupt, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as your school psychologist! I’m entering my sixth year in the field and bring with me a strong passion for inclusion, positive behavior supports, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). As your school psychologist, I’m here to support you and your students in any way I can. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—whether it’s through email, a quick phone call, or stopping by my office. I’m always happy to connect and collaborate. Outside of school, I love seeing new movies, enjoying live music, hiking, camping, and practicing yoga. I recently moved to Marin and would greatly appreciate any recommendations for local hikes, coffee spots, or great places to eat. I’m so excited to be part of the Coleman community and can’t wait to meet each of you!
