Principal's Update

August 24, 2025
Dear Coleman Families,

We had a great first three days together! Students were flexible as we adjusted our recess and lunch protocols and monitored the smoke from the fire in the Canal on Friday.

Construction Update

The construction team has made significant progress and is nearing the completion of the second phase. To ensure student safety and maximize time for eating and playing, we've made some tweaks to our recess and lunch protocols.
On Wednesday, we ate and played outside. However, due to drilling and gravel laying on Thursday and Friday, we moved snack and lunch indoors. We also changed the process for excusing and picking up students for recess and lunch. Our incredible teachers coached students before each break, so they knew exactly what to expect and where to go.

Yeffereson, Actually

Book Recommendation: Yeferson, Actually; En realidad, es Yefferson

A young student's first day at a new school can be a mix of excitement and nerves. For Yefferson, it also came with a challenge. As he met his teacher, the lunch lady, and his new classmates, he noticed a common mistake: everyone was calling him Jefferson.

With the unwavering love and support of his family, Yefferson found the courage to stand up for himself. He took the opportunity to teach others how to pronounce his name correctly, proudly sharing the story of his namesake. In doing so, Yefferson not only helped his new community learn something new, but he also showed us all the importance of celebrating our own identities.

SRCS Bond Project Updates

Update
SRCS Bond Project - Coleman Elementary

 PROJECTED SCHEDULE
Construction Start: 6/16/25
Completion: 9/19/25

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project will modernize the kindergarten and upper-grade play areas, improving overall campus functionality. The New Kindergarten play yard will feature a brand-new play structure designed to stimulate young children, surrounded by protective surfacing. A designated shade structure will also be built for the kindergarten lunch area. The upper-grade playground will receive new play equipment. Both playgrounds will include new AC paving and playground striping. Campus-wide enhancements will include a large shade structure with picnic tables in the main lunch area, the
addition of bio-retention areas and associated landscaping, and a new marquee at the front of the campus to improve visibility and communication.

PROJECT UPDATE

The new kindergarten play area opened on the first day of school to rave reviews! Its bright colors and inviting playground striping were so appealing that even the older students wanted to join in the fun. Don't worry, big kids—your new play area is almost ready. We've already installed the turf and play equipment in the main playground. Next week, we'll finish paving and start building the new shade structure. After that, we'll complete the
bio swale, add landscaping, and finish the playground striping.
