Dear Coleman Families,
In a time when our country can feel so divided, it was truly special to bring our community together for our Hispanic Heritage Month potluck and celebration. This event was so important because it gave our students and families a chance to share, eat, dance, and simply connect.
I'm incredibly grateful to Jaranero del Sur for their beautiful performance. Elaine, Jorge, and Brenda stole the show, thank you for performing!
I want to give a shout-out to the people who made Friday possible. A huge thank you to Ms. Martha and Ms. Kassy for organizing and planning Friday's celebration and all of our Hispanic Heritage events—they've been working on this since last spring! We also had a ton of families volunteer their time. Thank you to Josseline Hernandez Mesa, Dora Ramirez, Rosa Gonzalez, Katherine Quinones, and Andrea Ramirez for their help with the decorations and flyer.
Finally, thank you to all the families who pitched in with the set-up and break-down of the event. Your support makes everything possible!

Attendance is a key part of every student’s success, and we are grateful for your partnership in making sure students are present and on time each day. Last school year, our overall attendance rate was [HSD 96%, ESD 96.6%], and while this showed many families’ strong commitment, we know we can do even better.
So far this year, our attendance rate is [HSD 96.4%, ESD 97%, Coleman 97.07%], which is a good start, but we want to keep improving together. Every day in school matters. Even just a few absences or tardies can add up and impact learning. By working together, we can help give all students the best chance to learn, grow, and succeed.
Thank you for making school attendance a top priority in your family. Your support makes a big difference for your child and for our entire school community.

San Rafael High School graduate, Javier Zamora, is a beautifully written adventure. Mr. Zamora's three-thousand-mile journey from his small town in El Salvador, through Guatemala and Mexico, and across the U.S. border. He will leave behind his beloved aunt and grandparents to reunite with a mother who left four years ago and a father he barely remembers. Traveling alone amid a group of strangers and a “coyote” hired to lead them to safety, Javier expects his trip to last two short weeks.
At nine years old, all Javier can imagine is rushing into his parents’ arms, snuggling in bed between them, and living under the same roof again. He cannot foresee the perilous boat trips, relentless desert treks, pointed guns, arrests and deceptions that await him; nor can he know that those two weeks will expand into two life-altering months alongside fellow migrants who will come to encircle him like an unexpected family.
A memoir as gripping as it is moving, Solito provides an immediate and intimate account not only of a treacherous and near-impossible journey, but also of the miraculous kindness and love delivered at the most unexpected moments. Solito is Javier Zamora’s story, but it’s also the story of millions of others who had no choice but to leave home.
