Dear Coleman Families,
Coleman had an exciting, eventful week!
Our campus hosted several wonderful activities: special guests led classroom read-alouds, our 4th and 5thGraders went on a field trip, and we celebrated the opening of the new blacktop, playground, and parcourse for students in grades 1-5. The week culminated with a high-energy performance by the San Rafael High School Band on Friday.
We also had one particularly memorable—and smelly—surprise! A skunk decided to visit the bioretention swale near the blacktop, requiring us to initiate an official Shelter-in-Place drill. All teachers and students quickly and effectively closed their doors and continued with instruction while the construction crew safely managed the unexpected guest. A big thank you to our staff and students for handling the situation so smoothly!
Hispanic Heritage at Coleman
Coleman celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by fully embracing our district values of Equity, Community, and Joy!
The month was packed with meaningful activities:
They learned about the contributions of prominent Latine leaders, explored the significance of the various Latin American flags—including the meaning behind their colors and emblems—and we celebrated as a community with a joyful potluck filled with beautiful music and dancing.
To cap off the festivities, students from the San Rafael High School Educator Pathway course led inspiring read-alouds in our classrooms. These high schoolers were powerful role models and future leaders for our younger students. As a special highlight, Superintendent Diaz Ghysels visited Room 10 to share a story, making it a particularly memorable day for those students!
