Dear Coleman Families,

I hope you had the chance to step outside and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend! We certainly did, spending time on hikes to China Camp, playing at the beach, and enjoying the park. It was an added bonus getting that extra hour of sleep this morning thanks to Daylight Saving Time! If you haven't already, please make sure to set your kitchen clocks and watches to the correct time.

Halloween and Día De Los Muertos

Halloween and Día De Los Muertos were a huge success! A major highlight for me was hearing the 1st-grade students chant "TK, TK, TK" as they cheered on our youngest students, kicking off the procession with such wonderful energy and community spirit.
As you pack your student's lunches and snacks this week, please remember to save any leftover Halloween candy to be enjoyed as a reward at home. Thank you for helping us focus on nutrition and learning in the classroom!

The Great Lost & Found Mystery

When you have a moment this week, please take a quick look at the Lost and Found. We have accumulated enough items to start our own little department store at the front of the school! This is a gentle but firm plea to label everything. Please make sure you label your student’s jackets, sweatshirts, backpacks, water bottles, lunchboxes, and yes - if your student enjoys taking off their shoes - please label those too! Even this principal finds his daughter’s lost sweatshirts on the rack, so we know how easy it is to lose things!

Emotional regulation is a crucial skill that students must be taught, and the sensitive young surfer Mop finds his tools for it in the ocean. While facing tough feelings on land—like embarrassment at school—Mop finds peace when he paddles out into the waves. With guidance from his clever mom, Mop studies the timeless wisdom of the water: practicing deep breathing, learning to let the tough waves pass him by, and confidently riding the joyous, good ones all the way.

Mop successfully learns to bring the mindfulness and courage of surfing into his everyday life, giving him a newfound awareness to navigate the challenges, or "waves," of school and social interaction. This insightful story by celebrated San Francisco surfer-journalist-dad Jaimal Yogis uses the metaphor of the beach to provide essential emotional coping tools for children.

Lost and Found

Remind your child to be responsible for collecting their lost clothing! Label all clothing and bags that are sent to school. Lost and found is located near the front office walkway. Unclaimed lost and found will be donated in November, December, February, April and June. The school is not responsible for lost items.

 PROJECTED SCHEDULE
Construction Start: 6/16/25
Completion: 9/19/25

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project will modernize the kindergarten and upper-grade play areas, improving overall campus functionality. The New Kindergarten play yard will feature a brand-new play structure designed to stimulate young children, surrounded by protective surfacing. A designated shade structure will also be built for the kindergarten lunch area. The upper-grade playground will receive new play equipment. Both playgrounds will include new AC paving and playground striping. Campus-wide enhancements will include a large shade structure with picnic tables in the main lunch area, the
addition of bio-retention areas and associated landscaping, and a new marquee at the front of the campus to improve visibility and communication.

PROJECT UPDATE
The project is very near completion. This week, the contractor finished the paving and concrete installation for the drainage work between the playgrounds. They also began the playground striping in the same area, which will be turned over to the students next week.Additionally, the contractor removed the fire hydrant in the par course play area. The remaining tasks for this area are to backfill the line and patch the turf.
