The Principal's Post
Dear Coleman Families,

What a fantastic weekend! I am beyond grateful to our PTO Executive Board and the many families who worked tirelessly to make our annual Crab Feed such a success. It was wonderful to see our community come together in person to support our Tigers. Thank you for your generosity and school spirit!

Parent Education: Screen Sense

Wednesday, February 4 | On Campus
Join us for an essential parent education event: Screen Sense. To make it easier for you to attend, the PTO will provide pizza, babysitting, and interpretation services. This session is a vital opportunity for families to learn current best practices regarding:
  • Screen Safety: Insights into what the latest research says about youth technology use.
  • Practical Tools: Strategies to reduce online harm by using parental controls and properly setting up devices for children.
  • Digital Literacy: Guidance on teaching responsible texting and an overview of popular video games (including what to watch out for).
  • Kids IRL: An introduction to the Marin-based community dedicated to "getting tech in check."

Celebrating Black History Month

We have officially kicked off our Black History Month celebrations! This week, members of the SRHS Black Student Union joined us to lead art activities during snack time for our K–5 students.

Throughout the week, many classrooms also created banners highlighting the importance of kindness and community, which are now proudly displayed around campus. It was a beautiful and inspiring way to end a very busy week.

Book Recommendation: Sarah Rising by Ty Chapman

Sarah starts her day like any other day: she eats her toast and feeds her bugs. But today isn't a day like any other day. Today, her dad brings her to a protest to speak out against police violence against Black people. The protesters are loud, and Sarah gets scared. When Sarah spots a beautiful monarch butterfly and follows it through the crowd, she finds herself inside the no-man's land between the line of police and protesters. In the moments that follow, Sarah is confronted with the cruelty of those who are supposed to protect her and learns what it feels like to protect and be protected.

Sarah Rising provides a child's-eye view of a protest and offers an opportunity for children to talk about why people take to the streets to protest. Readers will gain a new appreciation for how important it is to be part of a community of people who protect each other.
