Dear Coleman Families,
I hope you’re enjoying this beautiful weather outdoors with your families! My family managed to sneak in a playdate at the Bay Area Discovery Museum this morning while the rest of the world was gearing up for the Super Bowl.
As we move through February, I find myself reflecting on what makes my heart full. Today, I’ve been thinking about the Coleman community and how we have built a space that truly welcomes and celebrates everyone.
In honor of Black History Month, we are centering our focus on Black Joy and Black Brilliance. Throughout the next few weeks - and the entire year - our students will continue to explore the vital contributions the Black community has made to our local neighborhood, California, and the United States. We look forward to capping off the month on Friday, February 27, with a community movie night and potluck!
Rich and Engaging Learning at Coleman:
TK Architects: Our youngest learners are "hammering away" at their architecture unit! We were thrilled to have several parents share their expertise in construction and design. After learning essential safety protocols, students put their skills to the test, using real tools to build model cars.
Second Grade Geologists: On Friday, our second graders led families and staff through a "Changing Earth" gallery walk. It was wonderful to see them present their findings with such confidence.
Third Grade Authors: Our third graders recently celebrated the completion of their informational research books on animals. After a fun publishing party where they read to one another, they proudly shared their finished work with their Little Buddies.
Art Spotlight: If you find yourself in the front office, please take a moment to admire our new student mural. Every single student contributed to this piece, and the result is stunning. A huge thank you to Ms. Caroline Sequeira for leading this beautiful project!
Tips for a Restful Break:
As we head into the break, I encourage you to ensure your children have plenty of time for unstructured outdoor play. Research consistently shows that play is the "work" of childhood and is essential for development. To help your child feel secure and ready for a smooth re-entry to school, I suggest:
- Maintain Consistency: Review the day’s schedule with your child each morning so they know what to expect.
- Prioritize Sleep: Sticking to your regular nighttime routine helps maintain healthy sleep patterns and makes the first day back much easier.
- Read: Read to your kiddos and have them read daily. There is nothing like getting lost in a good book over break.
Save the Date: March Conferences
Caretaker conferences will be held from March 16–20.
Monday, March 16, is a Non-Student Day. There will be no school for students, as teachers will be conducting conferences all day. Please keep an eye out for a sign-up link from your child’s teacher in the coming weeks. Tuesday, March 17-20 are 11:50 am release days.
