The Principal's Post
Families:

We are thrilled to welcome our students back to campus tomorrow! The final months of the school year are always a wonderful whirlwind of activity and growth.

Between state testing, the Heads Up Carnival, and various end-of-year celebrations, our calendar is packed with important learning and milestones. We know these transitions can bring a mix of emotions for our students. Now, more than ever, maintaining predictable routines and schedules is vital for their success and emotional well-being.
To help your child navigate this busy season, we recommend prioritizing a consistent bedtime. Aiming for the recommended 9–12 hours of sleep each night ensures their growing brains and bodies are rested and ready for the days ahead.

Tiger Club

It is time to sign up for Tiger Club! Enrollment forms will be sent to all new and returning families tomorrow, April 13.

We are proud of how much our aftercare program has grown, however, because we expect to reach capacity, a waitlist will likely be established. Please take a moment to review the Priority Enrollment information included in the letter to see how it applies to your family.

Upcoming Coleman Parent Education Workshop: Introductory Caregiver Workshop

Join Kelsey Chandler Consulting for a practical, 60-minute session designed for families of children in grades TK–5. This workshop focuses on the vital connection between caregiver well-being and a child’s social-emotional development, operating on the principle that a regulated adult is the most powerful tool in any home.

Participants will walk away with:
  • Actionable Insights: An increased awareness of your own nervous system and stress responses.
  • Practical Tools: A completed personal well-being action plan and emotional vocabulary to use with your child.
  • Home Resources: Ready-to-use templates, including a sample daily schedule and a behavior chart.
  • Community Connection: An opportunity to connect with other caregivers in our school community.

This in-person interactive session provides the simple "reset tools" and routines needed to reduce challenging behaviors and help your family thrive.

A huge shout out to our PTO and community for providing this opportunity to all of our Coleman families.

The Principal’s Pick: Rebuilding Students' Learning Power by Zaretta Hammond

Building on the Ready for Rigor™ framework, Zaretta Hammond’s Rebuilding Students’ Learning Power provides a science-based roadmap to close the "knowing-doing" gap. This essential guide moves beyond temporary fixes to dismantle over-scaffolding and shift the cognitive load back to the learner.
In this book, educators and leaders will find:
  • A Five-Step Process: A practical coaching model to strengthen students’ information processing.
  • Cognitive Apprenticeship: Strategies to recenter the student as the primary actor in the classroom.
  • Sustainable Equity: Guidance for building collective efficacy and best teaching practices.
Stop "cognitive redlining" and start reimagining instruction. This isn't just another strategy—it’s a plan to rebuild the brain’s learning muscles and ensure every student can master rigorous content.

Coleman Handbook Highlight

Let's keep the roundabout flowing! Thank you for working with us over the last couple of months to ensure that students get to school and back home safely.

Drop-off Procedures:

  • Prepare ahead of time: If you’re using the roundabout to drop off your students, please ensure that they can open and close their doors independently—drivers must always remain in their seats.  We suggest you give a hug and a kiss before you enter the car or park on Belle Avenue and take your student to school.
  • Pack the roundabout: Please pull as close to the stop sign as possible before you let your kids out; this keeps the flow of traffic moving.
  • Crossing guard: Beginning at 7:40 am, the Transportation Authority of Marin’s crossing guard supports families walking across Belle Avenue to and from Coleman.
  • Keep the crosswalk safe: Please stop at least 5-10 feet before the crosswalk to allow pedestrians to cross the street safely.
  • Entering the Roundabout: Traffic enters the roundabout from the southbound direction, making a left turn, and from the northbound direction, making a right turn.
Alternate Entering the Roundabout: Please alternate making turns into the roundabout to ensure that traffic continues to flow smoothly in both directions.
