The Principal's Post
Families:

Happy Mother’s Day! I hope everyone is soaking up the sun and honoring the moms out there today.

Today, I’m thinking of my mom and her 30-year legacy as a Bay Area public school teacher. She believed deeply in the community’s power to elevate our students. Growing up, I didn’t quite get why her job didn't end at the school bell - why we spent our weekends at her students' birthday parties, quinceañeras, and graduations. But she knew that showing up mattered.

She gave me the foundation for my entire philosophy: meet students where they are, believe in them fiercely, and they will surpass your wildest expectations. When I think about all of the mom's at Coleman, what stands out is their unwavering belief in our kiddos. A big thank you to all of the moms out there.

Dad’s Group Workday Success Thank you to the dedicated team of caretakers who participated in our recent workday. From heavy lifting like cement removal and laying concrete for a retaining wall to the "heart work" of building community connections, the day was a huge success. This project represents a significant contribution from our Crab Feed auction.
We’d like to recognize Elliot Pederson, Sean Wooley, Shannon Levenson, Matthew Steiner, Raman Paul, and the Martens family for their leadership and coordination

Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Month Celebrations

We are excited to continue honoring and uplifting our AANHPI community! Please join us for a potluck and a special Lion Dance performance this Friday, May 15, from 5:30–7:00 PM. It promises to be a wonderful evening of connection, dance, and great food. While we are celebrating AANHPI heritage, dishes from all cultures are encouraged!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Sanchez, Ms. Kassy, and Ms. Karina for leading such a successful Haiku lunch activity. It was a joy to see our students learn about this art form and express themselves by creating their very own poems.

Book Recommendation: Lily Xiao Speaks Out by Nicole Chen

Most eight-year-olds are about five times as tall as this book . . . but only half as tall as an ostrich, which is half as tall as a giraffe . . . twenty times smaller than a California Redwood! How do they compare to the tallest buildings? To Mt. Everest? To stars, galaxy clusters, and . . . the universe?
