Families:
I hope you are having a relaxing weekend. There are so many wonderful things taking place on campus right now.
Last week was full of excitement, starting with the rollout of our new English Language Arts curriculum in Kindergarten through fifth grade. Our Kindergarten students enjoyed a visit to the Fire Station and Library, we had an exciting performance by the San Rafael High School Band, and capped off the week with our first Movie Night. It was a fun way to bring our community together and wrap up our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
I want to give a special shout-out to the parent volunteers who helped make Friday evening such a success. A huge thank you to Zack Feinne, Amber and Keith Cameron, Alex Verheecke, Corinne Bartshire, Nicole Hawk, and Courtney Dowdall - we truly appreciate your support!

At Coleman Elementary, we proudly honor the diverse cultures that shape California. In a moment when essential histories are being quietly removed from library shelves in states outside of California, we provide our students the opportunity to learn from the past, so they can build a more just future.
When young Sylvia Mendez and her brothers were denied entry to their neighborhood school and forced to attend a segregated "Mexican school," her family decided to fight back. They organized a groundbreaking lawsuit that successfully ended segregated education in California in 1947, laying the groundwork for the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. Using his signature illustration style alongside interviews and court files, Duncan Tonatiuh beautifully captures the Mendez family’s inspiring fight for equality.

Parking and Drop-off - BE SAFE
Drop-off Procedures:
-
Prepare ahead of time: If you’re using the roundabout to drop off your students, please ensure that they can open and close their doors independently - drivers must always remain in their seats. We suggest you give a hug and a kiss before you enter the car or park on Belle Avenue and take your student to school.
-
Pack the roundabout: Please pull as close to the stop sign as possible before you let your kids out; this keeps the flow of traffic moving.
-
Crossing guard: Beginning at 7:40 am, the Transportation Authority of Marin’s crossing guard supports families walking across Belle Avenue to and from Coleman.
-
Keep the crosswalk safe: Please stop at least 5-10 feet before the crosswalk to allow pedestrians to cross the street safely.
-
Entering the Roundabout: Traffic enters the roundabout from the southbound direction, making a left turn, and from the northbound direction, making a right turn.
-
Alternate Entering the Roundabout: Please alternate making turns into the roundabout to ensure that traffic continues to flow smoothly in both directions.
